As Jake and I celebrated five wonderful years together, he decided it was time to take our relationship to the next level and popped the question. I was over the moon, thrilled to start this new chapter of our lives together. His family, especially his sweet grandmother, had welcomed me with open arms from day one, and I adored her warmth and kindness.
So when her 80th birthday approached, I was determined to make it special, despite being away on a last-minute business trip. Unable to attend in person, I decided to send her a heartfelt gift, a token of my love and appreciation for everything she had done for me.
As the day of her birthday arrived, I eagerly awaited news of her reaction to the gift. But my anticipation turned to shock when my phone rang, and Jake’s voice came through, filled with anger and frustration.
“I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!” he exclaimed, his words cutting through me like a knife. Confused and shaken, I struggled to comprehend what had gone wrong.
“What happened? Why are you saying this?” I managed to ask, my heart pounding in my chest.
“BECAUSE MY GRANDMA IS…” Jake’s voice trailed off, and I could hear the strain in his tone.
Fear gripped me as I waited for him to continue, unsure of what could have possibly caused such a drastic change in his demeanor. But before he could say another word, the call disconnected, leaving me with more questions than answers.
Frantic and desperate for clarity, I tried calling him back, but there was no response. With each passing moment, my anxiety grew, and I could feel the weight of uncertainty pressing down on me.
As I paced the room, my mind raced with possibilities, each one more terrifying than the last. Had something happened to his grandmother? Was she okay? And what could possibly have prompted Jake to react in such a drastic manner?
Unable to sit still any longer, I grabbed my coat and keys, determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. As I rushed out the door, my only thought was to find Jake and uncover the truth behind his sudden outburst. Whatever it took, I was determined to set things right and restore the peace that had been shattered by his alarming words.
