I’m a clerk at this fancy wedding salon. My job is awesome, except for my dumb coworker Mike. He’s so full of himself, only caters to the rich, and treats everyone else so bad! I can’t stand people like that! Luckily, karma knocked him down!
So this woman walks in, looking very modest. Sure enough, Mike starts mocking her, even told her to try a thrift store where she “belonged.” I couldn’t stand it and stepped in, helping her pick out a dress—I just wanted to make her feel like a queen! We browsed through the racks, and she had such a lovely, gentle demeanor. It was clear she was looking for something special.
When we got to the register, Mike sneered, certain she wouldn’t be able to afford anything from our high-end selection. “Are you sure you can afford these?” he asked her, dripping with condescension.
Ignoring him, I rang up the dress she had chosen. To everyone’s shock, Betsy, as she introduced herself, pulled out a black credit card and paid for the most expensive dress in the store. Then, to my astonishment, she handed me a $5000 tip!
Mike’s face turned beet red. “BUT HOW?!! She looks like a beggar!!!” he sputtered.
I turned to him with a smirk. “Mike, you totally judged her wrong just by her looks. Actually, Betsy is one of the wealthiest philanthropists in the city. She prefers to dress modestly and donate most of her wealth to charity.”
Mike’s jaw dropped. He couldn’t believe that he had misjudged her so completely. Betsy smiled at me warmly and said, “Thank you for treating me with respect and kindness. You never know who you’re talking to, and you should always be kind.”
As Betsy walked out of the store, looking every bit the queen she deserved to feel like, Mike slunk away, thoroughly humbled. From that day on, he treated every customer with a lot more respect. Meanwhile, I enjoyed my hefty tip and the satisfaction of knowing that I had done the right thing. Karma had indeed knocked him down, and hopefully, he’d learned a valuable lesson about judging others.
