Will Breaux, a designer, built his dream home entirely out of shipping containers. His remarkable home, located on Houston’s McGowen Street, is a three-story, 2,500-square-foot structure with a rooftop deck made of eleven shipping containers.
Breaux had intended to build his own home since the early 2000s, but he couldn’t find a designer who could produce the style he desired. He ultimately decided to act alone. Breaux stated on his blog, “I started looking at projects that were being built that I liked.” He began developing the house on his own around 2011, after firing a design team that fell short of his expectations.
Breaux was drawn to the thought of using shipping containers because of its strength, fire resistance, lifespan, and ability to endure hurricanes. He had no professional building expertise, but he educated himself how to construct a container home and created a 3D model of the home he desired. Breaux is the proud owner of a magnificent, fully equipped container home after many hours of work.
